Mrs Richard Hardy (fl.1848) - Portrait Of A Gentleman. Oil On Canvas.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Harrington Antiques

A portrait of a gentleman by ''Mrs Richard Hardy'', signed and dated 1848 verso (note the artist has used the archaic latin term ''Pinxit'', meaning the person who was responsible for the art).

The sitter is seated in an upholstered chair, wearing a black suit and cravat. The face is extremely well painted with great use of tone and light. The torso and hands are more loosely painted, bringing the sitter''s face firmly to the fore. There is a small area of discolouration to the right of the face, possibly due to historic overpainting.

A handsome work.
