A Pair of Original Oil Paintings on Board of Hunting Scenes, by Philip Henry Rideout (Brit. c1850-1920)
Rideout was a prolific turn of the Century painter of atmospheric coaching, hunting, coursing & racing subjects, mainly executed in oils and often on a small scale. Born in Chalfont, Buckinghamshire around 1850-60, he is now widely collected and his works can fetch high prices at auction.
The present pair of hunting scenes is typical of his primitive and somewhat naïve technique that is so popular with collectors of equestrian art from this period. The artist has scratched his signature into the paint at the lower right-hand corner of the board in each case, in a manner that is completely idiomatic of his work, together with the date 1897.
They are presented in modern gilt frames and are ready to hang.
Frame Size 25.25cm x 43cm (10'' x 17'')
Picture Size 15.5cm x 33.25cm (6'' x 13'')
These paintings date from 1897 but the frames are modern; frames & pictures are all in very good, clean & sound condition with only very minor age-related wear to the paintwork.
