Bench Settle Grand Carved Oak Victorian Wood Hall Hilgay Norfolk C1880

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Cloverleaf Home Interiors

Here we have a truly outstanding and stately Victorian carved Oak hall settle or bench c1880. As you can see the settle has great colour and patina. The settle has great provenance and was comissioned by the then owners of Wood Hall Hilgay Norfolk from Edwards and Roberts of London c1880. It has resided in the hallway ever since. The estate is currently for sale at a cost of 9.35 million and was the subject of a best selling book by Mollie Moran Aprons and Silver Spoons. There is a rounded top rail with Lion head finials at each end. There is gadrooned decoration below going outward from the centre and three fielded panels below. The panels have wonderful Gothic tracery and central relief carved Lion Heads. The arms have panelled supports again with carved Lion heads and the arms themselves terminate in large Lion heads. There is a single plank of English Oak to the seat which has been carefully quarter sawn to maximise the Medullary rays within the Oak grain. The same gadrooned carving is replicated below the seat and the legs are carved balusters with small Lion heads to the font and sides. A truly wonderful settle with exquisite carving in excellent retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 244 cm long 115 cm high 54 cm deep.
