Antique French Mantel Clock By Eugene Hazart After Brecourt

A late 19th century, French, Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted carrera marble mantel clock, the case signed Eug Hazart. The ovoid body flanked by dolphins surrounded by reed & oak leafs with a fountain to the top, the waisted socle beneath standing on a stepped square plinth. The white enamel dial signed Julien Béliard A Paris, with pierced gilt hands. The twin spring driven barrel movement rack striking the hour/half hour on a bell, back plate numbered ‘18899’, makers stamp of a ship and initials ‘JLF’ & ‘EMS’.

After the model by Brecourt, Paris, circa 1775. (See Vergoldete Bronzen Page 196, 3.13.3, Hans Ottomeyer/Peter Pröschel) A clock of the same model, with a blue enamelled ceramic body, was delivered by Louis Auguste Alfred Beurdeley to Henri d’Orléans, duc d’Aumale (1822-1897) for the Château de Chantilly. Another example is in the collection of the Château de Fontainebleau.
