Georgian Seed Pearl Multi-strand Necklace With Ornate Clasp

Very fine late Georgian period necklace comprising five strands of graduated natural seed pearls, .
Each strand is of a very slightly different length and all are connected to the outside edge of an ornate circular fastener fashioned in 18 ct. gold. This is inlaid with a ring and central cluster of further seed pearls, separated by a detail of dark blue enamel.
The drilling and threading of this many tiny pearls must have called for workmanship of the highest order.
Measuring approximately 37 cms. in length when opened out and in excellent condition, commensurate with age.
Supplied in the old retailers box in which we ourselves acquired it.
