ANTIQUE #SA573969

Antique Silver Dish Ring.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: George James Antiques

Edwardian silver ''Irish'' style dish ring; of circular form with a plethora of pierced and engraved exotic figures, plants and flowers. These were used to rest hot dishes on (especially potatoes,) to save distressing fine wooden table surfaces in the Georgian period, particularly in Ireland. They were invariably decorated in Oriental fashion and became very popular again in the late Victorian and Edwardian period. An iconic piece of silver and a ''must'' for any silver collection. This is a fine example, of good size and weight, with a contemporary monogram to the cartouche.
