This fabulous museum worthy Antique 18ct Gold locket brooch is Circa 1800.
This mysterious locket opens up to reveal a hand painted Lovers Eye displayed on natural Bone.
Eye miniatures or Lovers'' eyes were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. British and European lovers exchanged these as a token of love to their spouse, loved one or child. Only the eye was painted so that their identity remained anonymous except to the person they loved.
There are now said to be less than 1,000 lover''s eye pieces left in existence today and each one is highly collectable.
The reverse of the locket is a glass compartment where you can add your own history, a photograph or a lock of hair.
All set in 18ct Yellow Gold, boasting pristine Georgian workmanship of it’s time.
The brooch is complete with its original Leather box with blue Velvet interior from William Boore, a reputable Goldsmith and jeweller in London.
Purchased in London and steeped in English history.
This is an extremely collectable item of jewellery, a very rare find indeed.
