Incredible Rare Cast Set Of Mid 18th C Harlequin Silver Gilt Teaspoons With Mote Spoon

A wonderful and very rare set of cast silver-gilt teaspoons together with a matching mote spoon, all having a central harlequin figure, stylised leaf bowls and tree stems. This fine set would almost certainly originally have been part of a cased set containing tea caddies, sugar nips etc. For an identical set – and possibly this very one, see Ian Pickford ‘Silver Flatware’ page 175, where the photograph has the caption: ‘Mid eighteenth century silver-gilt harlequin teaspoons and mote spoon. Courtesy Sothebys.’
 
Condition: In wonderful antique condition the gilding lustrous and the with excellent definition to the design. There is a small old solder repair to the back of the mote spoon behind the head of the Harlequin.
