A VERY FINE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD HAND CARVED IVORY SECTIONAL FIGURE OF A FARMER PEASANT HOLDING I BELIEVE POSSIBLY LETTUCE OR SIMILAR LEAF PRODUCE. IT DOES HAVE A 2 CHARACTER SIGNATURE TO IT''S BASE.
THIS IS A SECTIONAL IVORY FIGURE THAT HAS HAD IT''S SECTIONS GLUED AT SOME TIME IN THE PAST.
AS WELL AS THE LEAVES HE HOLDS IN HIS LEFT HAND HE HAS AT HIS WAIST A BASKET WHICH IS FULL OF THE PRODUCE HE HAS PICKED.
THE FIGURE SEEMS TO BE TOTALLY INTACK, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE THERE IS NOTHING MISSING, AND THERE IS NO DAMAGE JUST AGE RELATED FINE CRACK LINES WHICH YOU WOULD TYPICALLY FIND ON A PIECE OF THIS AGE.
IT REALLY IS A DELIGHTFUL FIGURE AND WOULD MAKE A FINE ADDITION TO A COLLECTION OF IVORY OKIMONO FIGURES.
