Sold by: The Vintage Wrist Watch Company

Large antique silver Waltham pocket watch & chain.

The watch has a key-winding movement which is working well. The movement is signed Waltham, Mass and it has the serial number 5193877 which dates it back to late 1890. A winding key is included. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 55.4mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks for Birmingham 1893 with a case maker’s mark A.W (Alfred Wigley) who made cases for Waltham. The movements were often imported from the US for casing and subsequent retail within the UK. The case has light surface marks and the odd small “ding” to the back but overall is in nice condition a piece from 1890s.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial has faint hairline cracks to the chapter ring but they are quite difficult to see with the naked eye.

The watch comes on a Goliath silver chain hallmarked for Birmingham 1897 with the makers mark H.B (Herbert Bushell).

The chain T bar and clasp all have the same makers mark. The chain measures 35.5 cm including the T bar and clasp and 12 mm wide in the centre. The chain weights 89 grams and is in nice condition.
