A highly decorative large pair of late 18th century Baroque style Solomonic carved gilt wood columns, possibly Spanish or Italian with original gilding.This stunning pair of columns consist of Corinthian capitals to the top carved with scrolling acanthus leading down to the spiral Solomonic columns carved with scrolling foliage and flower decoration. These lead down to circular turned bases, the columns having been applied to square wooden painted stands which add both height and stability. The Solomonic column is also known as a barley-sugar column or spiral column as it has a twisting or spiral shaft like a corkscrew.
