Fine pair of C19th Italian carved serpentine marble ''Grand Tour'' souvenir models of the ''Medici Lions'' ,after the antique. Well-carved pair of green serpentine marble reductions of the famous white marble lions who have ,since 1789 ,guarded the entrance steps of the Loggia dei Lanzi ,Piazza della Signoria, Florence , Italy. Previously at the ''Villa Medici'' ,Rome, where they were sited in 1598. One lion being of ancient 2nd Century origin , the other companion carved in the C16th by Flaminio Vacca. Both male lions are shown with their front paws raised upon a ball or sphere mounted on canted corner integral bases Bases lined with old baize .Both in excellent original condition with no breaks, losses or damage.The selected stone of excellent quality and colour .
