Russian cubist gouache figure drawing by Vladmir Vasilievich Lebdev (1891-1967)
Rare mid century modern cubist work by the celebrated artist Vladmir Vasilievich Lebdev (1891-1967) This brightly work depicts the figure broken down into geometric shapes and depicted from multiple viewpoints simultaneously. He ignores traditional perspective techniques and presents an analytical understanding of the figure rather than a realistic illusion.
Lebdev fragments forms, and overlapping planes, and his focus is on the structure of the subject matter rather than its appearance from a single perspective, often using muted colors and a limited palette. Lareg scale and well framed this wonderful artwork displayed well in both a contemporary setting and mixed into a more traditional interior.
