Rare Wedgwood aesthetic period earthenware card tray with a Japanese inspired design with moulded ''bamboo'' rims and split form handle with blue ribbon in the centre. The white ground is painted with hummingbird, butterfly and grasses with moulded bamboo leaves around the edges. Impressed factory marks to the back include the date code for 1874.
It measures 25.5cm (10'') wide and 10cm (4'') high.
Condition is very good: there is a tight crack to the top of the handle that has been stabilised and probably from firing. No other damage or restoration, light handling wear, some small flakes to the enamel on the raised decoration of the bamboo leaves and black spots on the butterfly''s wings.
