A really beautiful, early 19th century Blue John urn on pedestal, later adapted to a lamp. The finely turned ovoid shaped urn, on square pedestal which is faced with Blue John, with Ashford Black and Derbyshire Alabaster mouldings and base, rewired and ready to use.
English Derbyshire circa 1810
English Blue John is only found at Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton, Derbyshire. It''s a semi-precious mineral, a rare form of fluorite, prized for its bands of a purple-blue and yellowish colour.
