This is a Georgian, amethyst flask or decanter dating from the mid 18th century, c1760, and probably originating from the Low Countries.
The flask is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the bowl and the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the base.
The flask is of shaft and flattened globe form measuring 14.5 cm (5.8 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The neck is plain save for a single hand-applied annular neck ring just below the pouring rim. The bowl is decorated with eight vertical trails of rigaree which combine to form a circle of rigaree around the base of the neck. The flask is 21.3 cm (8.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. It weighs 570 g. (~1 lb 4 oz.). There is a collector''s sticker to the base. There is a small piece of rigaree missing from the underside of the flask.
