Woman With A Tambourine By Meissen, Middle 19th Century.
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Gillers Antiques Ltd
Antique and rare Meissen porcelain figurine of the dancing lady with tambourine, middle 19th century. Standing barefoot woman dancing and playing the tambourine, she is dressed in a beautiful floral fluttering tunic, on her head the wreath of white flowers, the figure has painted with pastel colors, each detail is carefully painted. The figurine is really kind of in motion, just stopped for a second. That distinguishes the quality and art of Meissen. Meissen underglaze mark on the base confirmed the mentioned period. Also the number 12 impressed. In the early 19th century, technical innovations were introduced and the wares were made in the popular taste which improved the situation again. Superb modelling and painting were characteristic of Meissen porcelain; its products were unsurpassed, widely exported and much imitated. Throughout the 19th century, Meissen quality remained unchanged.
Between 1824 and circa 1850, the stamps were painted quite negligently. This quarter of a century is therefore referred to as a so-called ''lubrication period''. These mostly relatively small swords from the first half of the 19th century are often difficult to distinguish from those of the 18th century and are occasionally confused with the stamps of the period around 1730-1740. Around 1850, the swords were created with slightly curved blades and a point as a pommel at each end of the handle (referred to by the trade as ''Knauf-Schwerter'').
